What our Volunteers tell us

  • "My short time at REACH was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had"
  • "It was a lot of fun!"

"It has been two months now, working for REACH. For me it feels like two weeks ago since I walked into their school as the ‘’new’’ volunteer. During my stay I taught English and helped the marketing and communication department. This experience changed my life.

My goal was to make myself useful and help wherever I could. While I did, I did not set myself too many expectations. I wanted to teach and help the students, be part of their journey to a better life.

My colleagues have been amazing, their English is very good, they invited me to events and I got a great taste of the local life. I am so grateful for them showing me all the different sides of Vietnam. Furthermore, the students have been amazing. Going from zero to a conversation at the end of the course is great progress. These young adults have been very motivated to learn, which made my experience one to never forget.  Teaching them was easy, as they were so willing to absorb the information.

I can only say that I am so proud of this organization, they do a great job and it was an awesome chance to be a part of it. Thank you all so much!" Fleur Kamp, The Netherlands, July 2015

"I spent 3 months volunteering for REACH and in this time I helped teach English to the students in the Hanoi centre and assisted the fundraising department write their first annual report. My time at REACH was extremely enjoyable and rewarding. The highlight of my experience was meeting and teaching the students. Despite the challenges they face in their lives, they are so friendly, happy and keen to learn. They relish the opportunity to talk with you and will invite you to join them for coffee or play football with them. The teachers are also very friendly and welcoming and included me in all social events (including a trip to Ninh Binh!) which was really fun. I can’t wait to come back and volunteer at REACH again!" Jeffrey Justin Howard, Australia, Apr 2015

"The summer of 2012 I spent my vacation volunteering at REACH Danang as an English teacher. I spent just over one and a half months volunteering for the organisation and it was by far one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had. The staff in Danang is incredibly welcoming, helpful and wonderful to work with. In addition I got to know all of the students at the centre. The students were hardworking, incredibly friendly and indeed the highlight of my volunteering experience.  Everyday the students made me smile and laugh, making the classes fun and exciting not only for the students but also for me as a teacher. REACH Danang is a great place for international volunteers to work, both for first-timers and experienced volunteers. I had an amazing time working for REACH and if the opportunity arises I will definitely come back to do some more volunteering." Anna Storm Hanssen Sept 2012

"I volunteered at REACH, My Dinh for four weeks in September; this was my first time as a volunteer in Viet Nam.  I found the experience very rewarding and also humbling.  The enthusiasm, respect and kindness of the students added to a great learning environment, and whilst I assisted to teach English, the students helped me learn some Vietnamese words.  The Facilitators are very committed to their students both in and out of the classroom and I was kindly invited to participate in some excursions on the weekend with the students and teachers.  It was sad to leave REACH, as I thoroughly enjoyed my  with both students and facilitators but I returned home having made some very good friends from this experience." Deb Bakker, Australia, Sept 2012

"My short time at REACH was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. The team members are warm, intelligent, generous, passionately committed to their charitable goals, and were inspiring in their efforts to make me feel accepted as part of their working group. I have never met a team of people so selflessly devoted to helping those less fortunate than themselves....The smiling faces of the REACH staff and trainees at Hue and elsewhere, are proof that their training is most effective."
    Andrew Kruger February 2012

"I'm Tae Hwan and I'm from South Korea.  I was pleased to be involved and volunteer with the REACH program.  It was a lot of fun!" Tae Hwan Ji Nov 2011

"I had a great time at REACH's vocational training center.  It was my first time being a volunteer and I would like to thank you for giving me a chance to do it.  REACH is an amazing program because it gives the disadvantaged youth the chance to become educated.  I hope we get a chance to work together again." Duc Phan Thanh Nov 2011

"It was an honour to be able to participate at your vocational training center.  I feel very happy to have had the opportunity to support the disadvantaged women.  In my opinion, the REACH organization is a really effective way of creating a good environment to study to give them a better future.  I think many Vietnamese people surely appreciate your work."
