Cuong is a 22 years
old boy who came from Muong, an ethnic group in Vietnam. His family is living
in Ngoc Lac – one of the poor mountainous districts in Thanh Hoa province. His
family is under preferential treatment.
Cuong’s father passed away when he
started senior high school. He lives with mother and his elder brother, who
have to work very hard with limited earnings. When he finished senior high
school, he did not go on studying but go to Binh Duong (a very far province in
south of Vietnam) to work for nearly 3 years due to family circumstance.
Cuong always dreams of
becoming a good famous chef, and he can open his own restaurant in the future.
But He cannot find a chance to chase his dream in such a case.
Then he heard about the YCI program
accidentally through an article on facebook. Immediately, he left Binh Duond,
went to Hanoi to apply for Cooking class in YCI program. And he got the chance
to work as a trainee at Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel.
“I’m always hard
working and eager to learn through advises from my hotel trainers and REACH
teachers. I always remind myself to try to make my dream come true.” He said
“Through six months studying, I changed myself so much. From a person, who
don’t have any experience in cooking, now I know how to hold a knife, prepare
some food and I’m more confident in communication. And I shall have a job to
make my way to the world”
He said that this
program helped him to develop himself, and then gave him opportunity to take
care and support his family better.
Now Cuong is continuing to chase his dream by applying for stable and high standard
working environment to study and develop his skills.
