Who we areOur history
2004 The organization started in 2004 as the Livelihood Advancement Business School (LABS), a project of Plan in Vietnam.  The LABS vocational training model was originally conceived by the Dr.Reddy Foundation in India and LABS and REACH in Vietnam have been supported by Plan in Vietnam since 2004. The first center opened in Hanoi in 2004.
2005 In 2005, centers in Hue and Da Nang were opened. Since it started, REACH achieved phenomenal growth.  The number of students graduating each year increased at an incredible rate, nearly doubling each year. The popularity of the courses at REACH was due to an increasing awareness in the community about the program’s success- more than 80% of the students who graduate find employment - and the need for free, quality training for youth from poor and disadvantaged families.
2008 In 2008, Plan in Vietnam supported LABS to become an independent, local, non-government and non-profit organization, REACH. This was a significant step in the development of this form of short-term, market-oriented, large scale, relatively low cost training.
REACH received a licence as an NGO under VUSTA (Vietnamese Union of Scientific and Technology Associations) in 2008. Plan in Vietnam continued to directly manage Da Nang and Hue while REACH became established.
2010 In 2010, REACH took over the program management of the Central Region, with permanent centers in Da Nang and Hue. In 2010, REACH entered into a partnership with PACT to include youth living with HIV/ AIDS in our training programs.
2011 In 2011, REACH took full management of the Central Region and REACH also received financial support to extend its program outside the permanent centers of Hanoi, Da Nang and Hue.  These satellite centers were in smaller towns outside the permanent centers.  This enabled us to extend our reach to needy areas where many REACH target youth live.  The areas have an emerging economic sector or local government initiatives that are aligned with the REACH mission. In 2011, REACH set up satellite centers in Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, and Thanh Hoa in the Northern Region and Hoi An, Tam Ky, Quang Binh in the Central Region. Typically these Satellite Centers were kept at a small size of two to three classes per batch of about 60 students.  Often partners from the local government or local NGOs provided significant assistance in setting up and running a REACH batch in Satellite Centers.
In 2011, REACH had been selected as the only local partner working with SNV in Vietnam to implement HITT project (high impact tourism training) which is funded by EU.
2012 Developed and expanded alumni network nationwide
2013 Started six months hospitality training program called YCI (Youth Career Initiative) in partnership with 5-star hotels in Hanoi
2014 Established social enterprise REACH SE as a part of REACH strategic plan toward financial sustainability.
Also in 2014, out of 503 project entries from a record of 70 countries over the world, REACH is selected to be the winner of Project Inspire 2014, a joint initiative from Singapore Committee for UNWomen and MasterCard.
2015 Received international and local recognition.
  • REACH was one of eight Asia-Pacific winners of the Star Foundation’s Impact Award. The award recognizes outstanding local NGOs working with marginalized children and their communities.
  • Ready to Work (RTW) – REACH’s online training platform, won Plan Award for Most Innovative Use of Technology or Social Media along with the Safe School digital education game in Indonesia for the Asia region.
  • REACH has been recognized by VUSTA (Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations) as one of the ten most outstanding organizations in carrying out socio-economic development projects in Vietnam from 2013 to 2015.
